About

Sarah Hale

BSc (Hons), PGDip

I have worked in the NHS for over 10 years and as a Senior Occupational Therapist I have worked in a wide range of healthcare settings, from working in A&E and rapid response, to community rehabilitation teams and in-patient rehab units. I continue to work as part of the NHS on a locum basis and so participate regularly in a multi-disciplinary team (with Nurses, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists and GPs), which maintains my inter-professional skills. I have a great deal of experience working in the community supporting people to maintain their independence and engage in their activities of daily living safely and successfully.

Starting my own practice, Avon Community Therapists, has enabled me to provide truly high-quality, holistic therapy in people’s own homes. We are able to offer timely assessments and interventions, which has a significant effect on patient outcomes. Providing rehabilitation as well as preventative healthcare at home is crucial in keeping people active, healthy, and being able to participate and enjoy life. I believe that consistency of care, honesty, and being person-centred are the most important standards in healthcare, which is at the forefront of the practice.

Qualifications

Sarah trained at a postgraduate level in Occupational Therapy at Cardiff University and achieved a distinction, as well as a Certificate of Excellence in Clinical Practice. Prior to this she completed a undergraduate degree in Psychology at Southampton University, which has also been very beneficial in her OT practice. She is registered with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy and The Health and Care Professions Council (regulators of healthcare professions).

FAQs

Do you visit people in care homes?

We visit patients in all community settings including their own homes, residential and nursing homes, extra care housing, and supported living complexes.

If I need equipment or adaptations is that included?

We give advice on equipment and signpost to specific aids so you can buy these yourself. We provide training on the use of equipment as needed in follow-up visits. We can refer you for adaptations such as grab rails and review once these have been fitted. You will need to pay for the cost of the adaptation itself.

How do I know if OT can help me?

We offer a free 15 minute consultation, either on the phone or via video call, to discuss your individual circumstances and needs. Whether this is a new diagnosis, something you or a family member is struggling with, or a health condition that is affecting your abilities. This conversation will help establish what input you may benefit from. Our core values focus on being open and honest, so if we are not the right profession or our services cannot help you then we will discuss this with you and can often signpost you on.

How many visits will I need?

This will vary according to the person’s individual needs and their goals. Some patients will just need an assessment for advice only, others will need several follow ups, and some will need a period of therapy and possibly may return to our services months/ years later depending on their condition.

How much will it cost?

You can either book an initial assessment only, then plan follow-up visits as required. Or you may prefer to book an initial assessment and 2 follow-ups together at a discounted rate. See our terms and conditions for more information. We also offer a free 15-minute phone or video consultation to discuss your condition and needs, in which we will triage you. We primarily work with patients in Bristol and surrounding areas, however we can visit further afield but additional costs may apply. Please contact us for more information.
